I am a 47
year old male, Asian Indian journalist, living in New York.
I underwent a Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass to reduce my weight on
August 20, 2002 at Brookdale University Hospital in New
York. Eminent laparoscopic surgeon, Dr. Nick Gabriel,
performed the surgery with great care and expertise. I am
happy to say that I lost 70 pounds in just 90 days, taking my
weight from 250 lbs. in August to 180 lbs. in November. I
just could not believe my eyes when I saw myself in the mirror
each morning. My waistline has dropped from 56" to
40" in three months. I am now feeling fine and fit.
Prior
to surgery, I was suffering from hypertension, sleep apnea, high
cholesterol and elevated TGL for the past 10 years. I am not
able to say that all of these conditions are a thing of the past
now and I am the healthiest I've been in over a decade. My
blood pressure is normal and all of the complications have
vanished without a trace with the obesity.
I
eat less and feel fine and strong. My wife says that I look
10 years younger. I feel younger, stronger, more active and
agile. I have had no medical complications or negative side
effects as a result of the surgery. I do not feel hungry at
all and can pass any food without batting an eye. There is
no craving for food and I eat a healthy and balanced diet. I
don't ever feel tired or worn out. The
only flip side is that I have had to change my entire wardrobe and
am quite happy about it!
I
was quite skeptical when I first approached Dr. Gabriel for the
surgery and several of my friends and relatives tried to dissuade
me from going forward with it. I am very happy that I did.
Dr.
Gabriel took pains to explain all of the negative and positive
points that helped me make the right decision for me. He was
very transparent in his dealings. He is a great human being,
a wonderful surgeon, an excellent communicator and above all a
caring human being. I am very fortunate to have been
operated on by such a eminent surgeon who takes extra care and
goes the extra mile to make his patient feel safe and happy.
